Same sex marriages begin in New Zealand
NEW ZEALAND (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Monday marks the first day same-sex couples can marry in New Zealand.
The law was changed back in April.
About three dozen same-sex couples plan to get married throughout the country.
One couple even said their vows in a plane at 39,000 feet, accompanied by "Modern Family" Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
New Zealand's Department of Internal Affairs late last week said nearly 1,000 marriage applications were downloaded in the week since same-sex applications became available, around three times the average amount.
