Father shoots estranged daughter during home invasion murder plot
PENNSYLVANIA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police are investigating an unbelievable murder plot in Pennsylvania.
A father says he was forced to shoot and kill two intruders after they'd invaded his home and gunned down his wife and adult son.
It wasn't until after firing the fatal shots that he realized one of the intruders was his estranged daughter.
"What we are led to believe at this point, he had no idea that was his daughter until after the fact, after everything had unfolded," said one investigator.
Police say John and Roberta Frew hadn't spoken to or seen their daughter, Josephine Ruckinger, in about 20 years.
But on Friday night they say 43-year-old Josephine, and her husband, Jeffrey Ruckinger, drove to the Frew home, knocked on the door and opened fire.
"Roberta answered the door. We believe that she cried out something to the effect of 'Oh my god, they have guns.' At this time, gunfire erupted," said John Matchik, Jr. of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Police say Josephine took the first shot that killed Roberta Frew. They say John Frew, Junior was shot next by Jeffrey while trying to grab a gun.
That's when John Frew, Senior, ran to a back bedroom, grabbed a rifle and shot Josephine and Jeffrey.
Police say they don't expect to file any charges.
