Swing collapse injures 13 kids
CONNECTICUT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Connecticut fire marshals will be on scene Monday, looking into what caused a swing collapse at a fair, injuring 13 children.
Officials say most of the injuries were minor, but at least two children went to local hospitals.
Police say the ride apparently lost power, causing the children in the swings to drop suddenly.
It's estimated some kids fell between 10 and 15 feet to the ground. Some hit other riders and some hit the ride itself.
"I was turned around facing the swings and it just stopped and all of the swings slammed into the base of the ride itself. It was very nasty," said one victim.
"When they swung around from the impact, it slammed them into the center of the ride and there were injured kids everywhere, the parents ripping out the gate just trying to get to their kids. I mean, it was just - it was horrible," said a witness.
The owner of the swing ride said it was inspected by state officials Friday and was deemed safe.
