Draft resolution from U.N. would strip Syria of chemical weapons
NEW YORK (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The U.S. Security Council will be taking on Syria's chemical weapons program.
Representatives of the five permanent members of the council have confirmed that there's an agreement on a draft resolution.
The resolution would strip Syria of its arsenal and hold Syria accountable for attacks on August 21st.
It also stipulates that any failure to comply in full would lead to more serious measures, including economic sanctions or even possible military intervention.
The deal would be the most significant international diplomatic initiative of the Syrian Civil War.
It's the closest the U.S. and Russia have come to a resolution.
