Brazilian President declines invite to state dinner
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - President Obama could be losing some friends because of a U.S. spying program.
The leader of Brazil is saying no thanks to the president's invitation to a glitzy state dinner.
Every year the White House hosts a dinner to toast the leader of another nation. This year, the president had planned to showcase U.S. relations with Brazil. But, the Brazilian President has postponed her visit to protest a U.S. spying program that she says has targeted her government and citizens.
It was the only state dinner on the calendar, and because its so late in the year, its unlikely another will be scheduled.
The White House says they're working with Brazil to move beyond the issue.
