Jury rules against Toyota in acceleration death case
OKLAHOMA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A jury has hit Toyota with a $3-million verdict in one of the first successfully tried cases stemming from a sudden acceleration death case.
An Oklahoma County jury awarded $1.5 million in damages to the driver of the vehicle who was injured.
They awarded the same amount to the family of the woman who died.
The decision marks the first time a jury was convinced that faulty electronics caused the acceleration and that Toyota knew there was a problem, but didn't fix it.
The automaker has denied the allegations and won three previous trials.
The jury is set to being deliberations Friday on punitive damages.
