Retired officer fires shots at W. Virginia courthouse
WHEELING, West Virginia (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - We're learning more about a man who fired up to two dozen shots at a federal courthouse in West Virginia.
The Wheeling Police Chief says it was one of their own, a 55-year old retired officer.
They say he was armed with an assault weapon and a handgun, firing off 20 shots before he was shot and killed.
The building was mostly empty due to the government shutdown.
"The security plans that we have in place for situations like this, don't work when we don't have everybody there," said William J. Ihlenfeld II, U.S. Attorney.
Several people were injured by debris.
Right now officials say they don't know what motivated the shooting.
