Christie appeals gay marriage ruling to NJ Supreme Court
NEW JERSEY (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is taking his appeal of the gay marriage ruling to the state's supreme court.
While most appeals go through the appellate court first, Acting Attorney General John Hoffman says the New Jersey Supreme Court should take up the matter because of its quote "far-reaching implications."
He will also ask the judge who made last week's ruling to delay the October 21st implementation date until the appeal is decided.
Christie said hours after Friday's ruling that he intended to appeal.
Democrats had called for the state supreme court to fast-track a decision so same-sex couples would know whether they could tie the knot in New Jersey.
