Glitch removes spending limits on Louisiana EBT cards
LOUISIANA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Lots of people flocked to a Louisiana Wal-Mart, after discovery of a brief glitch on Electronic Benefit Transfer cards.
For a few hours this weekend, shoppers discovered that their spending limits had completely disappeared, giving them unlimited funds for grocery shopping.
Overwhelmed employees were told by Wal-Mart's headquarters to "keep the registers ringing."
The glitch was apparently triggered by a power outage during EBT infrastructure maintenance.
Wal-Mart says once the situation was corrected, overflowing shopping carts were abandoned in the aisles.
This wasn't the case, however, for people in Michigan.
Shoppers in 17 states were unable to access their accounts at all.
Xerox says its electronic benefits system problem was apparently triggered by maintenance procedures.
