NY judge rules unpaid interns cannot sue for sexual harassment
NEW YORK (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A federal judge in New York City has ruled that unpaid interns cannot sue their employers for sexual harassment because they are technically not employees.
That means unpaid interns are not included under New York City's human rights law.
Back in January, a broadcast intern at a TV station filed a lawsuit against the station, alleging her former supervisor sexually harassed her.
The woman's attorney says there is a big hole in the employment law that needs to be filled to protect interns.
