9-year-old boy takes trip to Las Vegas without ticket
LAS VEGAS (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 9-year-old boy is being held in protective custody in Las Vegas as authorities work on how he got there by himself without a ticket.
Police say the parents of the Minneapolis boy had no idea he was gone.
They say the 9-year-old boy took a train to the airport Thursday morning. He then made it through three security checkpoints unaccompanied, without a boarding pass.
Once the plane was in the air flight attendants became suspicious and contacted Vegas police.
Experts say while this is unusual, it's not unheard of.
"They attach themselves to a group in sort of to an outsider, instead of a family of three kids it's a family of four kids," said Spokesman Jon Austin.
A spokesperson for TSA says they have reviewed video of the boy at the checkpoint and are "investigating."
Meantime, an airport spokesperson says the boy was at the airport alone the day before the flight too.
He says he ate at an airport restaurant and left without paying.
