Vigil held for rape victim in Maryville
MARYVILLE, Missouri (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Activists held a vigil in Maryville where a teenager says she was raped two years ago.
Victim advocates voiced their support of 16-year-old Daisy Coleman whose case is making national headlines and is now being looked into by a special prosecutor.
The new prosecutor promised, earlier this week, to review the case without fear or favor.
"I'm looking at all of this and the changes that have occurred over the last week as a success, so we really accomplished our goal in just making sure that both parties have their day in court and their voices are heard," said vigil organizer Courtney Cole.
Police say Coleman and another alleged victim didn't cooperate with authorities during the initial investigation, leading to the charges against a 17-year-old boy being dropped.
The prosecutor who dropped the initial charges stands by his decision.
