Deadly bombings target Christians in Iraq
BAGHDAD (AP) - Two deadly Christmas Day bombings in Baghdad have targeted Christian areas of the city. More than three dozen people were killed and nearly 60 people were wounded.
Police say the greatest casualties happened near a church during Christmas Mass. The other bombing happened in an outdoor market.
There's been no claim of responsibility.
Iraq's dwindling Christian community is estimated to number between 400,000 and 600,000. It's often been targeted by al-Qaida and other insurgents.
Today's attacks came amid a massive military operation in Iraq's western desert. Authorities are trying to hunt down insurgents who have stepped up attacks across Iraq in recent months.
