Bank robbery suspect killed
PHOENIX, Arizona (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The nationwide manhunt for a suspected bank robber and cop killer has ended.
Officers in Phoenix, Arizona shot and killed suspect Mario Garnett after he robbed a bank Saturday morning.
A Secret Service spokesman says the 40-year-old Garnett was behind a weeklong bank robbery spree that spanned from Georgia to Arizona.
The FBI says the crime spree began last Monday morning when a man tried to rob an Atlanta bank but failed. He went on to rob a bank customer at an ATM.
Authorities believe he then went to Tupelo, Mississippi where he held up a bank and got in a gunfight with police, shooting two officers.
One of those officers died.
"We don't celebrate any deaths, regardless of the circumstances, however we hope in this case that the knowledge that this suspect can no longer cause harm to anyone brings a little peace to the officers of Tupelo, Mississippi," said Officer James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Dept.
Garnett was killed. No one else was hurt.
Officers say he served 4-years in the U.S. Army.
He is supposedly from the Midwest
