WIND ADVISORY

10 AM Until 2 AM Saturday

The National Weather Service maintains a WIND ADVISORY for nearly all of West Michigan from 10 AM this morning until 2 AM Saturday morning.  45 mph gusts are likely inland while 50 mph gusts are possible at the Lake Shore.  This kind of wind is capable of bringing down tree branches and creating some power outages.  Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen.  Winds blow from the northwest this morning then from the north by midday and beyond.  Stay with wwmt.com for your weather today and always!

Rescue effort continues, a day after winter storm

ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities in Georgia are still working to get food, water, gas and blankets to people who've been stranded in their cars since yesterday afternoon's winter storm.

Police and National Guard troops, meanwhile, are working to escort home the children who were stuck overnight at their schools. Hundreds more spent the night on school buses.

It's not clear just when all of the stranded vehicles will be off the roads in the Atlanta area. Temperatures aren't expected to be above freezing for very long, so the roads might not have a chance to thaw.

At least six people died in traffic accidents, including five in Alabama.

The Alabama governor's office says rescue personnel and medics in state aircraft have been flying over Jefferson and Shelby counties, conducting search and rescue missions for stranded motorists.
