Feds part ways with lead health website contractor

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Obama administration is parting ways with the lead outside contractor for the federal health care website.

HealthCare.gov had to be rebuilt after a disastrous launch last fall that embarrassed the president.

CGI Federal's current contract will not be renewed after February. That's according to a person familiar with the situation who requested anonymity to discuss a government contracting matter.

Instead, the administration intends to hire tech company Accenture to run the website.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services confirmed the change Friday in an indirectly-worded statement, saying - quote - "We are working with our contract partners to make a mutually agreed upon transition."

The site was down 60 percent of the time in October. Since it was fixed, more than 1 million people have signed up.
