Farm Bill will cut food stamps, continue subsidies

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The House is rushing to complete work on a nearly $100-billion-a-year Farm Bill that would make small cuts to food stamps and continue generous subsidies for America's farmers.

Republicans in the House helped defeat an earlier version of the bill last summer.

Some lawmakers plan to do so again, saying the cuts are not enough.

Leaders scheduled a quick vote Wednesday morning after the bill was introduced Monday, giving opponents little time to build opposition to the legislation, which is nearly 1,000 pages long.
