Vatican 'regrets' damning UN report on abuse

VATICAN CITY (AP) - A report from a U.N. human rights committee could put new pressure on Pope Francis to take decisive action aimed against the abuse of children by clergy.

The committee is accusing the Vatican of "systematically" adopting policies that allowed priests to rape and molest tens of thousands of children over decades. The committee is also urging the Holy See to open its filed on pedophile priests, and on the bishops who helped conceal their crimes.

The Vatican says the committee doesn't seem to have listened when it outlined the measures it has taken to protect children.
