Mother drives into ocean with kids in vehicle

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Department of Children and Families is now investigating after a mother drove into the ocean with children in her vehicle.

The kids were ages five, seven and ten.

You can see the vehicle partially submerged in the water in the video above as it was drifting deeper and deeper.

Bystanders ran towards the vehicle to help. They pulled the children from the car and walked them back towards land.

Orlando beachgoers say it was a scary sight.

"When she first was drifting into the ocean we thought maybe an accident. But when the bystanders went to help she clearly went deeper into the ocean she drove right towards it, so it's hard to believe it was an accident," said witness Donna Pratt.

A witness says one of the children was screaming that their mother was trying to kill them.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the mother who was driving the vehicle is pregnant and has been admitted to a local hospital for a mental health exam.
