Secretary of State to meet with Russian counterpart over Ukraine

PARIS, France (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Diplomacy takes center stage Wednesday surrounding Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will meet with his Russian counterpart in Paris.

"President Obama and I want to make it clear to Russia and to everybody else in the world that we are not seeking confrontation," said U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Russia has agreed to a NATO request to hold a special meeting in Brussels Wednesday.

One of the proposals on the table would keep Russian troops in Crimea, but restricted to their bases.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials say the Obama administration is considering slapping Russia with economic sanctions as soon as this week.

But Putin is already fighting back. Wednesday morning state media reported Russia was drafting a law allowing the confiscation of assets of European or U.S. companies if sanctions are imposed.
