Premature baby in India saved by homemade incubator

INDIA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A family in India saved their premature baby's life by literally putting him in an ice box for five months.

The baby boy was born weighing only 3 pounds, 3 ounces, and was prone to infection.

Parents could not afford the costs of an incubator at the hospital, so a doctor recommended a thermocol ice box.

They bought a box from a nearby fish market, poked holes for ventilation, and added a 60-watt bulb for warmth.

Five months later, the baby is now getting 24-hour care from a children's hospital that heard about the story.

They are treating him for free.
