Video released of officer's shooting

BOWIE, Texas (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Dramatic video has been released of the shooting and police chase that ended with the death of an accused killer.

The officer lived to tell his tale.

"It's got a lasting impact is the fact that I have to wear this hearing aid, which is something I should not have had to wear for 40-years, for the rest of my life," said Deputy James Boyd.

Federal authorities released the video Monday that shows Texas Sheriff's Deputy James Boyd approaching a car during a traffic stop back in March 2013.

You can see Boyd walking up to the passenger window when the driver starts shooting.

Boyd was hit three times, once in the head.

The shooter, Evan Ebel, then sped off.

Boyd struggled for several minutes before someone came to help.

Ebel was killed a short time later in a shootout with police after a high-speed chase.

The video was released after a Colorado woman was convicted for buying the gun Ebel used to shoot Boyd and murder two other men.

She was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison.
