Search for jet now includes Indian Ocean

MALAYSIA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - U.S. officials are now examining whether or not a missing Malaysian airliner could have flown on for a couple of hours after going off the radar.

CBS News sources say the jet continued to transmit data to satellites up to four hours after it disappeared.

The multinational search has now widened to include the Indian Ocean.

Malaysian officials believe the flight could have detoured to the west about an hour after takeoff.
