Abortion restrictions go into effect in Arizona

ARIZONA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The most stringent restrictions in the nation on the use of abortion drugs have been allowed to take effect in Arizona.

The rules ban pill-induced abortions after seven weeks of pregnancy, compared with the current nine-week restriction.

A federal judge on Monday refused to issue a stay.

Planned Parenthood says if the new rules had been in effect in 2012, some 800 women would have had to get surgical abortions instead.

The Center for Reproductive Rights, which filed the lawsuit, says it will continue to challenge the rules in court.
