Lawmakers propose regulations for compounding pharmacies
LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan lawmakers are calling for new regulations after last year's deadly meningitis outbreak.
They want to regulate the 470 compounding pharmacies in Michigan.
The proposal would require regular inspection of pharmacies and criminal background checks for employees.
There would also be someone in charge to make sure their store is following the laws.
The outbreak, blamed on contaminated steroids, infected 264 people and killed 17 in Michigan.
