Smell from UP water plant prompts complaints
ESCANABA, Mich. (AP) - A smell from a wastewater treatment plant in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is prompting complaints from area residents.
WLUC-TV reports the complaints began in July near Escanaba Paper Co., which says the odor is from its treatment facility.
Spokeswoman Jackie Pride says the treatment plant is an important part of its operations and a chemical is being added to the water to reduce the smell.
Environmental engineers are monitoring odor levels. The company says it tracks all complaints and has received more than 70 this year.
