Two animals dead in Branch Co. abuse case
COLDWATER, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A graphic case of animal abuse in Branch County. For many it’s hard to look at.
Investigators want to know who starved two animals to death. The case has neighbors who found the animals sick to their stomach.
“Nobody wants to see animals suffer that way,” said Sgt. Seth Reed, MSP Coldwater Post.
Broken hooves, open wounds, skin and bones. That’s what a neighbor discovered while out for a walk. A horse and goat were dumped near Hurley and Hodunk Road.
That neighbor flagged down a State Police Trooper.
“The animals had not been there very long possibly within the last 24 hours,” said Reed.
Investigators believe the animals were dragged through the mud, before they were found.
“The most disturbing thing the troopers found was the malnutrition issues. I didn't look like they ate properly,” said Reed.
The hard part now is figuring out who starved these animals and dumped them there.
“We're reaching out to the citizens to call us with any information to tell us who they think they may belong to,” said Reed.
Those owners could face animal abuse, dumping and trespassing charges.
