Local building inspector accused of disturbing sex crime
ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The building inspector for Lee and Valley townships is under arrest, accused of disturbing sex crime.
Paul Shamblin will be facing one count of aggravated indecent exposure, two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree and two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree.
All four counts of criminal sexual conduct allege that the victim was mentally incapable at the time.
“I think my eyebrows hit my hairline,” said Lee Township Supervisor Scott Owen, “it was a shock.”
Owen says he is still working out what the charges could mean for the community.
“I have no idea what it’s going to mean, you’re innocent until proven guilty,” said Owen, “but it’s going to have an impact.”
According to the court documents, the abuse went on for about four months in Valley Township.
Currently Shamblin is out on a $100,000 bond. Newschannel 3 went to his home, but he refused to speak to us. As for his job in Lee Township, Owen says the board is waiting to hear from Shamblin.
“This is going to be a situation that’s going to be addressed by the board,” said Owen. “We’d like to have Paul come down and talk with us personally so we can hear it straight from the horse’s mouth.”
Shamblin is slated to appear before a judge for an arraignment Tuesday.
