Community leaders meet to discuss future of Kzoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Community leaders have found a lot to be positive about in Kalamazoo.

Leaders in the medical field and beyond met in Kalamazoo on Tuesday to talk about the future of the city.

The women's group Inforum held the meeting, which brought together the leaders or Bronson Hospital and Borgess Medical Center, as well as the new dean of the WMU medical school.

The goal of the forum was to talk about things that are pushing Kalamazoo into the future, and ways to improve the city even more.

Panelists also spoke about what makes Kalamazoo unique and what makes the city a competitive place for those in the health care field.

"That's something that's special about the Kalamazoo community is the collaboration that's happening," said Jacqueline Wiggins, with Inforum. "So you have these fierce competitors with anyone looking at it saying Bronson and Borgess, but they've come together with Western Michigan University and have really put a stake in the ground."

The new WMU medical school was a topic of a great deal of the conversation.

Panelists believe it will help the city to grow even more.
