Man faces multiple charges after letting four-year-old son drive, and crash
MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office says alcohol is believed to be the main contributing factor to a crash where a 34-year-old man had let his four-year-old son steer.
Deputies say the 34-year-old man from Comstock Park was arrested Saturday on a number of charges after he refused to stop after his vehicle was seen with heavy damage to its front end.
After a short chase that ended at the home of the suspect’s mother, the man refused to comply with orders and a fight ensued, resulting in minor injuries to a deputy. The man was taken into custody.
Investigation revealed that the man’s vehicle had struck a tree after he allowed his four-year-old son to sit on his lap and drive while unrestrained.
Deputies say the man received a minor injury from the crash and the boy was not hurt.
Deputies say they discovered open intoxicants inside the vehicle and the arresting deputy saw the suspect throw an alcoholic beverage out of the vehicle prior to stopping.
The man was arrested on charges including fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, driving while license suspended, transporting open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and child endangerment.
