Former GR youth minister sentenced to 6 months

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A former Kent County youth pastor learned his sentence today after he admitted to molesting a teenage girl.

Matthew Abid was sentenced to 6 months in Kent County Jail, after credit was given for 34 days served.

After serving his time, Abid will also remain on probation for 5 years, and must register as a sex offender.

Last month, Abid pleaded guilty to second degree criminal sexual conduct. In exchange prosecutors dropped another charge against him.

Police say the assault happened in December 2011 at a church on Lamoreaux Drive where the 15-year-old victim was taking a driver's training class.

Abid was a youth ministry leader at a different church at the time.
