Argument between neighbors gets violent, 1 arrested

PINE GROVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man was sent to the hospital later Friday evening, following an alleged attack by his neighbor with a hatchet.

Van Buren County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report that a man was assaulted by his neighbor at the neighbor's home in the 26000 block of County Road 388.

The victim, a 44-year-old male, was reportedly assaulted with the blunt, back part of the hatchet by the suspect, identified as a 51-year-old male from the Kendall area.

The injuries required medical attention, and the victim was transported to a hospital for further care.

Dispatchers were able to determine the suspect's phone number, and encouraged him to come out and meet with police.

The initial investigation revealed that the two men were reportedly drinking alcohol together when an argument between the two got heated.

The argument got physical, and when the victim tried to leave, the suspect reportedly picked up a hatchet and struck the victim.

The victim was then able to make it home and call police.

His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The suspect has been charged with felonious assault.
