Governor to lay out state budget proposal

LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Governor Snyder will lay out his proposal for next year's state budget Thursday.

We've just learned he will propose giving public schools, universities and community colleges two-percent more funding in the next school year.

It will also require universities to hold tuition increases to under four-percent or lose part of their state aid.

Snyder will also ask lawmakers to double enrollment in a preschool program for kids at risk of failing

Snyder says the 2013 - 2014 budget is different from last year's when Michigan had a $1.5 billion deficit. His 2013 budget outline says it will lay the foundation for economic growth and job creation.

Some of the top topics he's expected to cover Thursday include education, improving roads and bridges, public safety and health and human services.

Snyder also says the 2013 budge will set aside rainy day reserves.

Snyder will deliver his budget address in Lansing at 11:00 Thursday morning before a joint session of both the state House and Senate. You can tune in live by clicking here.
