Former corrections officer to stand trial, faces new charge

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A former Calhoun County corrections officer was in court Thursday.

Troy Pope was fired from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department earlier this month following an internal investigation.

He's accused of having sexual contact with a 16-year-old boy in 2004. Pope is also charged with solicitation for another alleged incident.

In court the judge decided there was enough evidence to send Pope to trial on charges of criminal sexual conduct, 3rd degree, children accosting for immoral purposes, prostitution accosting and soliciting. He also faces a new charge of using a computer to commit a crime.

Pope faces over 15 years in prison if he is convicted on all counts.
