UPDATE: Deadly officer involved shooting

BARRY COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly officer involved shooting that took the life of a 41-year-old man.

Police have now confirmed that the man who was fatally shot was 41-year-old Ralph Elliot.

Lt. Chuck Christensen tells Newschannel 3 Deputies were called at about 6:30 p.m. to the 9800 block of Banfield Road for a domestic situation between Elliot and his wife.

Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf tells Newschannel 3 when officers arrived the situation “went bad.”

That’s when Lt. Christensen says a standoff situation took place with the suspect.

He says the suspect was outside when shots were fired from both the suspect and at least one deputy.

Five deputies were on scene when the shots were fired, said Christensen.

Christensen says in all, seven shots were fired.

Two shots were fired by the suspect, who did not aim at the deputies.

The other five shots were fired by the Barry County Sheriff’s Office.
