Four deputies on leave after deadly shooting

BARRY COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Four deputies are on leave in Barry County while Michigan State Police investigate a deadly officer-involved shooting.

Deputies had responded to a domestic situation at a home on Banfield Road in Baltimore Township on Saturday night.

Investigators say that Ralph Elliot was refusing to come out when they first arrived, but then, after a short standoff, someone started shooting.

“There were six total shots fired at this point, but we’re still looking into that, two of which likely came from the suspect’s weapon and four from the deputies,” said Lt. Chuck Christensen, MSP.

Elliot later died at the hospital.
