Series of crashes lead to highway shut down in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Battle Creek police say a crash on westbound I-94 led to a pair of chain-reaction crashes including one involving multiple semis.

The first crash happened just west of Helmer Rd. around 11 last night.

A semi trying to slow down as it approached that crash slid on the icy roads and jack-knifed.

That caused four cars and another semi to collide.

That pile-up then led to another crash further down the highway as drivers tried to avoid the wreckage.

Police say no one was seriously injured.

Westbound I-94 was closed for a couple hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
