Portage taking up donation box issue

PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Portage City Council is expected to take up the issue of donation boxes at Tuesday night's meeting.

Right now there are 25 for-profit and non profit collection boxes taking donations on everything from clothes to books in the city.

According to an M-Live article, the donation box ordinance amendment has been in the works since last fall.

The ordinance would offer guidelines and regulations, including the number of boxes on any one site.

In 2012 there were 18 boxes at 14 locations. In January that grew to 25 at 19 locations.
