GRPS reaches tentative agreement with union
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Grand Rapids Public Schools and the district's teachers union have reached a tentative contract agreement.
GRPS Spokesperson John Helmholdt tells Newschannel 3 the school board agreed Monday night to a tentative deal with the Grand Rapids Education Association.
He declined to discuss the specifics of the deal until all union members have seen the terms.
Teachers have been working without a contract since the summer.
Many unions across the state have been working to negotiate new contracts before right to work takes effect in Michigan.
During Monday night's school board meeting, board members also gave Superintendent Teresa Weatherall-Neal a rating of "highly effective," giving her 93 out of 100 points on her evaluation.
