(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Federal employees across the country, including here in West Michigan, will rally Wednesday as part of a national day of protest.
The rallies will highlight the need to end across the board budget cuts known as sequestration.
Those events will be held outside federal agencies and lawmakers' offices to show the impact of sequestration on every day Americans and on our local and national economies.
"We want the economy in America to grow. We don't want it to go down. That's what's going to happen with sequestration. It's going to affect Medicaid, it's going to affect boarder control, it's going to affect TSA, it's going to affect your food," said Robin Nichols, President of AFGE Local 1626. "So this is going to affect our overall economy, we want Congress and the president to work together, get together, get this done so that American can be the nation that it has always been."
Rallies will take place Wednesday in Grand Rapids at 3045 Knapp Street from 11:45 to 1:00 and in Battle Creek at McCamly Park across from the Federal Center starting at 11:30.
