Mass held to pray for Pope Francis

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Catholic mass in Kalamazoo held special meaning on Thursday.

St. Augustine Cathedral, alongside churches all over the world, prayed for their new Pope.

Bishop Paul Bradley presided over the mass Thursday.

He led parishioners in communion and prayers that Pope Francis will lead the church for many years to come.

The Kalamazoo Diocese has more than 101,000 Catholics, making up 11 percent of the local population.

It was founded in 1971, and spans 9 counties.
