Vigil set for Tues. to memorialize missing woman

MARSHALL, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Tuesday, the family of a missing woman will hold a vigil in her honor.

Mary Lands disappeared 9 years ago.

Tuesday marks the exact day she vanished, after her boyfriend claimed they had a fight and she stormed out of their home in Marshall for a walk.

While Lands's fiancee has been a prime suspect in her disappearance, he has never been charged.

Lands was legally declared dead in 2011.

Detectives and investigators have spent more than 17,000 hours looking for answers.

They're hoping this year they'll see a break in the case.

"If someone would give up the body and tell us where she could be recovered and buried, then nobody would hear from the Marshalls again," said Private Investigator Jim Carlin, who's worked on the case. "Let the criminal justice do what they do in finding the person or persons responsible for her murder."

The vigil will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Brooks Memorial Circle Fountain in Marshall.
