Entergy to discuss Palisades Nuclear Plant on Tues.

COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Monday night, Entergy Corporation is addressing reports that Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert may be forced to shut down within the next few years.

According to reports, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission told Entergy, which owns Palisades, that a potential issue must be fixed or the reactor may be shut down by 2017.

Entergy has to provide evidence that the reactor vessel would remain safe beyond that time limit if it wants to keep Palisades open.

Monday night, Entergy released a statement, saying:

"The Palisades Nuclear Plant is a safe and secure facility, and we have an NRC license to operate this facility through 2031. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has strict rules, regulations, and limits for all aspects of nuclear plant operations."

The NRC is expected to address the issue on Tuesday.
