Recently honored deputy accused of driving drunk

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Just one week after helping to save a family from an apartment fire, a Kent County Sheriff’s deputy is facing a drunk driving charge.

Jail records show that Deputy Ed Kolakowski was booked into the Ottawa County Jail for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

That happened around 2:00 am Sunday near 128th Avenue and M-45 in Robinson Township.

Kolakowski has since been released from jail.

Kolakowski was one of six deputies who was recently honored for rescuing a mother and her two children from a burning apartment building at Woodfield Apartments in Gaines Township.
