WMU students participate in marathon poetry reading

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Six Western Michigan University students are taking part in what is being billed as the university's first marathon poetry reading.

On Friday the world language students are reading all 9,896 lines of Virgil's 'The Aeneid.' The marathon reading kicked off at 11:00 am and is expected to last about thirteen hours.

"We picked The Aeineid because it has themes that are relatable to everyone and a lot of modern culture has been drawn from it," said WMU senior Kristen Rushlow.

Students say they hope the marathon reading will help build a sense of community in Kalamazoo.
