3 Marines shot dead in Quantico Thurs. night

QUANTICO, Va. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Three marines are dead in an apparent murder-suicide at the Marine base in Quantico, Virginia, about 40 miles south of Washington, D.C.

Investigators are now trying to figure out why a Marine would turn on his own compatriots.

At around 10:30 on Thursday night, authorities responded to a 911 cal and found one male Marine dead from a gunshot wound.

The base went on lockdown, and the apparent shooter then went to another part of the barracks, where he apparently shot a female Marine, before turning the gun on himself.

Marine officials are still searching for a motive, but did say the shooting is believed to be of a personal matter.

It's been a rough few days for the Marines, as on Monday, seven Marines were killed in an explosion during a training exercise in Nevada.
