Research: 1 in 10 deaths caused by too much salt

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A new study says that while sugary drinks may cause 25,000 U.S. deaths a year, that's much smaller than the damage done by salt.

Researchers at Harvard found that one in every 10 U.S. deaths is a result of too much salt consumption.

They say high salt intake increases blood pressure which contributes to heart attacks and strokes.

Researchers also found that one in three deaths due to excessive salt occurred before the age of 70.
