Landlord arraigned on multiple charges in death of tenant

VALLEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Allegan County man is now in jail, after he was officially charged with the murder of one of his tenants.

Jody Snyder was found shot to death inside a home he was renting in Valley Township nearly two weeks ago.

79-year-old Marion Conley was in court Thursday.

He's facing one count of open murder, one count of felony firearms, and one count of assaulting or resisting a police officer.

Newschannel 3 spoke with Conley, who goes by 'Kurt,' on March 10th.

At that time, he said police had taken him in for questioning which lasted about three hours but then let him go.

He also said he had no idea who killed Snyder.

He said he was in the process of evicting Snyder for damage he had caused to the home he was renting.

Snyder's nephew, however, told Newschannel 3 on Thursday that as soon as the family heard what happened to Jody, the whole family thought Conley was responsible.

Conley is currently in jail facing a $750,000 bond on the open murder and felony firearms charge, and a $15,000 bond on the resisting and obstructing charge.
