Meijer State Games to add winter edition for 2014

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - The West Michigan Sports Commission has announced that its Meijer State Games will hold a winter edition next February.
   
The commission said Monday that the Winter Games will be held in Grand Rapids. They join the Summer Games, which also are held in West Michigan.
   
The Meijer State Games of Michigan are an Olympics-style sports festival open to state residents regardless of age or ability.
   
The West Michigan Sports Commission also on Monday revealed details of this year's summer games, which are to be held June 21-23.
   
Organizers say five new sports are being added, bringing the total to 36 athletic competitions. The five new sports for the 2013 games are badminton, diving, field hockey, flag football and Ultimate Frisbee.
