Police hope autopsy results shed light onto White Pigeon industrial accident

WHITE PIGEON, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police are hoping that autopsy results will provide some clues into a deadly workplace accident over the weekend in White Pigeon.

Investigators have now identified the man who died at the White Pigeon Paper Mill on Sunday as 61-year-old Robert Knight.

Sources told Newschannel 3 that Knight fell into a paper pulper.

Knight worked as a welder at the plant.

His co-workers didn't realize what had happened until they noticed no one had seen him for several minutes.

Then they found him in the machine.

Police say Knight had a history of heart problems, which may have caused him to collapse.

"He's an older gentleman, been at the paper mill a long time, and because of the fact that he does have a health history; we're looking into that as well," said Det. Sgt. Todd Petersen with the Michigan State Police.

Investigators say there were no other workers in the area at the time, and they do not suspect foul play.

The Vice President of the company said that his prayers and thoughts are with the family.
